Cliff Curtis Biography

 

Cliff Curtis is a Kiwi actor who hails from New Zealand. He was born on July 27, 1968, in the town of Rotorua, which is located in the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand. He is the seventh kid out of eight, and his mother was a dancer in her spare time. Curtis is a Maori and a member of two different tribes, the Te Arawa and the Ngai Hauiti. Curtis has portrayed a broad range of roles during his career, including those of Mexican American, Samoan, Indian, Arab, and Anglo-Saxon origin, despite the fact that he considers himself to be Maori. Whenua Films, a production company based in New Zealand, has him on board as a partner.

His debut in the film industry came in the form of a small part in the film The Piano, directed by Jane Campion and produced by Jane Campion, which was shortlisted for an Academy Award. Once Were Warriors was one of the most successful films to be released in New Zealand theaters, and the line “Uncle fucken Bully,” spoken by “Jake the Muss,” played by Temuera Morrison, about the character of Curtis, became one of the most memorable and frequently quoted lines in the history of New Zealand film. It also became a part of the “Kiwiana” trend.
